Time To Say Goodbye
After a week in Choteau the inevitable day has arrived. Today was my last full day in town. We had a lot of work to do to get the house ready for winter and prepare for heading out.
I did find some time to take a run into the South Canyon of the Teton River. It is a great drive into the mountains of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. As far as I could tell there was only one other vehicle in the canyon and they left ahead of me.
It was absolutely silent. I still cannot get over how quiet and area can be. It is such a huge area and yet so quiet. The fact that each day when I am back home worrying about whatever is the problem of the day this forest is standing in silence thousands of miles away just as it was the day before and the day before kind of puts things in perspective.
I shot a few images of a nice grove of aspens, which were at their peak of fall color. On the way out of the canyon the sky quickly grew very dark and the clouds were moving very quickly.
I moved pretty fast to get ahead of the storm anticipating that I might get some images of lightning striking the mountains. But the storm was moving faster than what I could get out of the canyon. So I kept going and eventually got ahead of the storm much closer to town. I shot a few images attempting to get lighting in the shots. I was able to get one before the lighting was getting way to close for comfort. So I headed home.
So it's goodbye to Choteau for a few more months. It really sucks to leave. This is such a great time of year here. But I guess all good things must come to an end at some point.
