Along The Way...

This image was shot in July at Badwater in Death Valley. It was nearly 130 degrees at the lowest spot in America.

I made this image after talking with this gentleman and realizing what an amazing person he is. His name is Spanky Gibson or more formally, Gy Sgt William Gibson.

He is a Marine from Ft. Sill, OK who lost his leg above the knee in a battle during the war on terror some where in Iraq.

He was in Badwater as part of the Badwater Ultra Marathon. This is a run that goes from the lowest point in the US to the highest in the lower 48 in 135 miles and nearly 130 degree temperatures and an elevation gain of over 14,000 feet.

Spankey was there to raise money for an organization within the military assisting other soldiers who come back from battle and have lost legs and or arms or suffered other debilitating injuries. He travels around the country attending or participating in events which prove there is life and ability after such catastrophic injuries.

He truly was an inspiration to us. He was kind, gracious and humble. He is a true American Hero.
