Oxbow Black and White...

2008-02-16

Hi everyone--

Hope you are all having a great weekend. It's nice to be able to take a break for a few days. It's also nice to be able to sleep in a bit.

This weekend’s image was shot in '06 at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park. This is a tough location to come away with an image that can stand on its own. The beauty is there, the opportunity to have a nice composition is there. Very often the light and the clouds are there.

The problem is...the crowd is there too. This is probably the most popular location in the park for sunrise and sunset. It make this spot a tough one to pull off an image that people will look at and say wow that is a spectacular image.

It is a shame because it is such a beautiful location. I suppose a location can be over photographed. But in reality even though there are thousands upon thousands of photographers who shoot at this spot each year each one does come away with their own personal take on the shot.

For locations like this one it is mandatory that your skills are top notch. Your equipment must be spot on, the weather has to cooperate and then a higher power has to step in to create the magic. Some days that happens, many it does not.

No worries though because unless you totally screw it up you can still walk away with a beautiful image. However, you just need that little something extra from above to make it stand out in the crowd.

This is one beautiful landscape and that you captured it in BW is so beautiful. It is very strong and I like how dark the black is in it what a GRAND image. This is breathtaking I could see this on a wall framed in my own home. I love it!!! superb work!!!!
