Hi everyone-

Yesterday was a nearly perfect day here in Montana. The weather was cool and the sky was sunny. A few afternoon clouds and isolated storms created dramatic skies for a while. Then a cool evening with a nice sunset.

I picked up m friend Bryan (BA to some of you) at the airport in the late afternoon, we headed up to Choteau where got got situated and then had a nice dinner at the Elk Country Grill. After that we headed out towards the mountains for a drive to "see what we could see".

Along the way we stopped to check out an unobstructed view of the mountains. While we were there I saw this interesting looking fence set up. I have seen a ton of fences out here but never one that was like this.

Today we are heading up to Glacier National Park and will be shooting there for a few days as well as the North American Indian Days Powwow on the Blackfeet Nation. It should be a great time.

I'm not so sure of the Internet situation up there so I'll check it out and post if possible. If I can then the next post will be on Monday.

Hi everyone-

We had a great 4th of July here in Choteau, Montana. The celebration starts here on the 3rd. The town has an art and craft show, called Art On The Green, Keg Hockey, Music In The Park, The Boxing Smoker and the Street Dance at the American Legion.

Also my cousins have a great family reunion picnic. That is the most fun part of the day because we have a lot of fun, get to see family from all over the country and of course eat a ton of great food.

On Saturday the day starts with a Run and Walk (we skipped that...lol) and then the parade. After the parade there is a Steak Fry in the park but we head to another cousins house for one more picnic. Then after that its off to the rodeo. That is always a great time.

The evening ended at another family gathering at my cousin Laura's house. There we made s'mores lit fireworks and of course ended the evening watching the towns fireworks display.

The weekend ended on Sunday with a majority of the immediate family departing for home. My girls, my sister and her son and my dad all headed home to PA to get back to the real world while my mom and I hang out for another week or so.

Hi everyone-

Finally got to Rapid City, SD today. It was a long day of driving. But we have some fun stuff planned for the next few days so it was worth it.

Of course we had to stop in Wall, SD and have a quick bite to eat and look around at Wall Drug. Cree really enjoyed seeing some of the oddities they have there. And I got an audio book about Crazy Horse as well as a printed book by the same author also on Crazy Horse. I am hoping to listen to the whole book before we visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield and watch the reenactment on Saturday.

Tomorrow we'll make our way through the Black Hills, Sundance, WY and end up in Cody for the night.

So today's image was shot at the Jackpot ranch and it's of John who is Dallas' son in law. He was talking to Dallas when this image was shot from inside the barn. I know that he isn't looking at me but I thought is was a really cool image. I passed over it a few times but have kept coming back to it.

Hi everyone-

I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was pretty busy and lonely as the girls were away and I had to work. I was sure happy to see them come home. But I did get a bunch of stuff done so it wasn't all bad I suppose.

So today's images were shot within a few minutes of the images from last week. Interestingly they were all shot in the first hour of the first day at the ranch and are really a few of my favorite from the whole trip.

Today's shots were a few things that I noticed while we were talking with Dallas and his son in law John while they were getting the horses ready for the day.

I love old spurs so these are really up there as some of my favorite shots.

Hi everyone-

Today's post is a bit late because I slept in a bit today after getting home from NYC after 2 am!! We had a great time though taking my cousins all over the city, seeing everything we could cram in!!

Today's image was shot during a branding on the ranch where over 400 head of cattle were branded, inoculated and tagged. In this image several of the large group of area ranchers who came to help are riding out towards the corral where the branding was to take place. It was probably about 6:30 in the morning and the sun was still very low in the sky making for some cool light.

The image is process the same way as yesterday's.

Hi everyone-

Today I am posting two images that were shot within a few minutes of each other. They are again of Dallas Rolf, this time while he was preparing his horse for a dive of moving some new cattle around the ranch.

One of the great things about Dallas, who on the surface seems to be a very quiet guy, is that he actually enjoys explaining the workings and history of the ranch and his family. He not only provided us with friendship but a great explanation of everything that we were witnessing.

He is also a great teacher, which came through when he was teaching us to use various types of rope and techniques to rope cattle. He showed me over and over the proper way to coil the rope for easy throwing.

Each image was color corrected to give them the same basic look. Then I added several layers of texture a few more color adjustments. Then blended it all together and there you have it...lol

Hi everybody-

You might remember a few months ago I posted an image I shot of Dallas Rolf a rancher from Wyoming. We had a brief meeting in Jackson Hole and I shot a few images of him.

Well he and his family invited me to shoot on their ranch earlier this year. So having some time available in May and being in the area we set up a time that would work well for both of us. I also invited my friend and fantastic photographer Moe Witschard to join me.

Well a week and a half ago we spent three days shooting at the Jackpot Ranch in Sundance Wyoming with Dallas, his family and their friends. We had a completely awesome time and not only came away with some fantastic images but some new good friends.

Over the next few days I will highlight some of the images taken while at the Jackpot. I have a few ideas for the future of these images and how I will present them but that is a bit down the road.

In the mean time i really hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as we did spending time with this great family and shooting the photographs.
